Dredging

(Sediment Removal)

Sitecare started dredging on 5th May 2025.

Can we encourage you to come down and have a look as on the outside of the fence by the bridge they have put up some story boards of the whole dredging process from start to finish.

Latest Update

Sitecare is nearly halfway through dredging the Marina now, and the Eastern wing up to the bridge has been completed. Dredging the Western wing where the Public toilets are situated was commenced beginning of last week, and the Board is very happy with the work being carried out.

Below is the latest projected time frame provided by Sitecare, including the completion date. Please note that this is dependent on everything running to plan.

We may have to close off part of the Marina during this time, but it is envisioned that some of the ramps will remain open all through this process. Also, please note that the Marina will be fully open on weekends.

Can I encourage you to visit both our website and Facebook sites, where this information, along with photos of Sitecare’s progress, will be posted.

The Board would like to thank you for your patience during the dredging process.

If anyone has any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Paul Robinson, our onsite Director, on 027 497 8827.

Timeline

Objective

We aim to reduce the levels of built-up sediment and weed to improve vessel berthing.

Scope Of Works

  • The nominated areas of the marina are to be dredged to remove the nominated amount of sediment and organic matter (see “Sediment and Organic Matter Removal Locations Plan”).

  • A total of 318 tDS is to be removed, which is estimated to equate to 3,986m3 of material

Equipment Location

The car park at the end of Kinloch Esplanade will be fenced off and inaccessible, as this area will be used to accommodate dewatering plant and equipment.

Key Equipment

Bubble Curtain

Placed across the entrance of the marina to prevent any disturbed sediment from entering the lake. This will be weighted so it runs along the bed of the marina, allowing boats to pass over.

Hoses

Multiple hoses will be in place to carry the dredged material and to return the water to the marina after water/sediment separation.

Generator

Powers the dredge and compressor that provides air to the bubble curtain.

Dredge

Floats in the marina and attached to wire rope cables crossing the marina. Collects the sediment & weed and pumps it into the floating hoses.

Pumping Units

Receive the water and sediment from the dredge and dose it to create the separation process.

Dewatering Containers

These separate the sediment and water, collecting the sediment.

Hook Trucks

Uplift the Dewatering Containers when full and transport to an approved location for unloading.

Hazards

  1. More traffic on Kinloch Esplanade than usual.

  2. Deliveries of equipment and unloading with Hiab.

  3. Heavy vehicles will be accessing/exiting the carpark daily, via Kinloch Esplanade, for the uplifting and transportation off-site of the dewatered sludge material.

  4. During dredging activity, there will be dredging equipment with hoses within the marina, with some hoses crossing over walkways to reach the dewatering area.
